All authors must disclose the financial and material support received for the research and/or preparation of the manuscript.
The Funding Statement should identify:
- funding organization;
- grant number, where applicable; and
- the role of the funder in the research.
Where relevant, authors should explain whether the funder was involved in:
- research design;
- data collection;
- analysis;
- interpretation;
- manuscript preparation; or
- the decision to submit the manuscript.
Where the funder had no role, this should be stated.
Example:
“This research was funded by [Funding Agency], Grant No. [number]. The funder had no role in the study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, manuscript preparation, or decision to publish.”
Where no external funding was received, authors should state:
“This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.”
Funding status does not influence editorial decisions.
