Digital Preservation Policy

Al-Adzka is committed to ensuring the long-term accessibility, integrity, authenticity, and usability of its published scholarly content. The journal applies multiple preservation measures to reduce the risk of content loss caused by technical failure, human error, system migration, or other disruptions.

Content Covered

Digital preservation covers:

1. published article files;
2. supplementary materials;
3. article and issue metadata;
4. editorial information required to maintain the scholarly record; and
5. corrections, retractions, and other post-publication notices.

PKP Preservation Network

Al-Adzka participates in the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) through Open Journal Systems. Eligible published content is deposited in a distributed network of preservation nodes to create secure and geographically distributed copies.

The PKP PN supports the long-term preservation and potential restoration of journal content if it becomes unavailable from the journal’s primary publishing platform.

Backup and Recovery

The journal’s digital content, database, and publication files are included in regular institutional server backups. Backup copies are stored securely and separately from the active journal system to reduce the risk of simultaneous data loss.

The publisher is responsible for maintaining appropriate access controls, monitoring backup integrity, and supporting data restoration following technical failure or system disruption. Restoration procedures are periodically reviewed and tested.

Persistent Identification and Metadata

Each published article is assigned a Digital Object Identifier registered through Crossref. Al-Adzka maintains DOI links and deposits article metadata with relevant indexing, discovery, and scholarly infrastructure services.

If the journal website or platform changes, the journal will update DOI destination links and preserve the continuity of bibliographic metadata and article access.

File Formats and System Migration

Al-Adzka uses commonly supported publication and metadata formats to facilitate long-term accessibility. When software, platforms, or file formats become obsolete, the journal will migrate content to supported formats while preserving its accuracy, completeness, and scholarly context.

System upgrades and migrations include appropriate backups, verification of article files and metadata, and checks to ensure that DOI links and publication records remain functional.

Self-Archiving and Distributed Copies

Authors may deposit and distribute the published version of their articles through institutional repositories, subject repositories, personal websites, and other appropriate scholarly platforms without an embargo, in accordance with the journal’s CC BY 4.0 license.

Libraries and repositories may also preserve copies of published content, provided that the original authors, article DOI, journal, and applicable license are clearly identified.

Journal Continuity

If Al-Adzka ceases publication or changes its publisher, platform, or institutional management, reasonable measures will be taken to ensure that previously published articles remain accessible. Preserved content may be restored through the PKP Preservation Network or transferred to an institutional repository or another trusted preservation service while maintaining the integrity of the published scholarly record.

The journal periodically reviews this policy and its preservation arrangements to reflect developments in technology, infrastructure, and scholarly publishing standards.
